Monday Scrimmage Recap

I would like to thank all of the parents that came out to support our middle school football team during our recent scrimmages with Union Grove Middle School and Meadow View Middle School. I would also like to thank all of our coaches and players for working so hard this spring. Our players came out and played very hard. Our major goals were to get as many kids involved in the scrimmages as possible with a limited number of plays, and to absolutely impose our will on the other teams. We really wanted to emphasize playing as a team as much as possible and being very physical.

Offensively, we executed fairly well and most of the kids seemed to have a pretty good idea of what was expected of them. Defensively we wanted to be aligned correctly and fly to the football. We really did a great job of being physical and attacking while shedding blocks effectively. We only had four days to prepare for both of these scrimmages so we felt we accomplished most of our goals.

Players will bring their practice uniforms home to wash on Wednesday, May 18th after practice and return them on Thursday, May 19th for the last practice of spring. We will hand out travel bags and put all of their practice equipment away until the start of fall practice in July.

Summer strength and conditioning will be held each Monday and Wednesday beginning on June 6th from 10am till Noon. Players need to bring gym shoes and cleats along with a water bottle or sports drink.

Thanks,

Coach McClurg

Scrimmage 5/16 vs Meadow View Middle

***UPDATE*** Scrimmage time has been changed to 6pm today. Meadow View is delayed and needs to push the game time out an hour.

The second spring football practice scrimmage will be Monday 5/16/11 and begin around 6pm. All players will stay after school on Monday to prepare for the game and all players should plan on bringing a snack to eat after school due to the amount of time the players will be at school.

Anyone planning on attending the scrimmage is asked to please park at the Alcoa Elementary School parking lot. The AMS practice field is on the Elementary school property on the right side of the school. There is no seating so bring your lawn chair to watch the game. The players will be positioned at the opposite ends of the field so the parents of both teams can sit along the sideline to watch the game.

Thank you,

AMS Football Coaches
