FCA / Carson-Newman College 7 on 7 Passing Camp and Lineman Challenge

I’d like to thank everyone who attended the FCA Football camp at Carson-Newman College on July 14th and 15th. A special thanks needs to go to John Clabough who provided us with bus transportation to and from the camp. It allowed us to take the largest group we have ever taken to the two day camp. I’d also like to thank parent/coach Doug LeQuire for giving his time to our team. Doug led our linemen to a second place finish out of 13 teams in the two day event. Events included tug of war, relay and obstacle course races just to name a few. Team members included: Sam Scott, Brody Dunlap, Quay McCollum, Garrett Livesay, Garrett LeQuire, Jonah Dunnings, Logan Turbyfill, Alex Waits, Bryce Lyons, and Jake Amburgey. Way to go guys! Alcoa offensive lineman Quay McCollum was honored as the 3rd best over all lineman out of all participants from the 13th teams. Way to go Quay!

We had two Alcoa teams compete against 11 other teams in the 7 on 7 passing camp. Both teams did a great job against excellent competition. Alcoa team “Silver” came away with an impressive upset victory over arch rival Maryville “Black”. Alcoa team “Silver” members were: Cameron Canfield, Myles Brown, Jared McDonald, Gabe Long, Iyron Edwards, Chris Badgett, and Austin Endsley. Alcoa team “White” finished in second place in the overall team competition. Alcoa team “White” memebers were: Peyton Hill, Ryan Clark, Mason McClanahan, Caleb Woody, Florent Ismali, Dustin Clabough, Matthew McClurg and Mitchell McClurg. Team “white” posted the second best win/loss record of the camp going 9-2-1 and an impressive 6 shutouts. Team white was never shut out and led in every game they played. Both teams did a great job of playing and competing against much larger teams. Way to go Alcoa Team White and Alcoa Team Silver! We’re proud of your efforts!

Over 300 athletes came together to compete in the individual punt, pass, kick, lineman and back 40 yard dash events. Alcoa quarterback Mitchell McClurg placed first in the passing compeition for the longest throw. Way to go Mitchell!

Our Alcoa Middle School teams won team banners as 7 on 7 Passing Finalist, and Lineman Challenge Finalist. Congratulations to every player on the team for their tremendous efforts. I’m very proud of the way all of our athletes competed and the character displayed by each individual on the team. Way to go Alcoa!

I’d also like to say thanks for the hard work of Jenifer Clark for doing such a great job of updating our website, providing directions, and being our team publicist. You’re great Jenifer! Finally, I’d like to thank Alcoa Middle School Coaches Scott Flynn, Kip Jones, Michael Bauman, and Doug LeQuire. Without these guys we couldn’t have taken as many athletes as we did and definately couldn’t have achieved the level of success that was achieved with out their knowledge, integrity, and commitment to our program. I really appreciate everyone of you for the time and hardwork that goes into making this program a success and a special experience for our players. Finally, a big “thank you” to our principle Mr. Jim Kirk for allowing us to participate in this camp in the first place. Without his support none of this would ever be possible!

Thanks,

Coach McClurg

The Carson-Newman College/FCA Football Camp will be held July 14th and 15th. This is an invitation only over night camp.

Coaches and players will work with the Carson-Newman staff along with the Coaches from FCA to provide position specific instruction for our team. We will compete in 7 on 7 and lineman competitions against other local area schools. Coaches and players will spend the night in a dorm at CNC and compete against other local schools. We will take a limited number of players. We have been to this camp in the past and it has been a great experience for all involved. More info will be provided. Payment for the FCA camp can be made to Alcoa Middle School. Please list in the memo section of your check FCA Football Camp.
